DO IT ANYWAY: Following Doesn’t Free Us From Storms

Scripture:
Matthew 14:22–24 “Immediately he made the disciples get into the boat… but the boat… was beaten by the waves, for the wind was against them.”
Big Idea:
Obedience Doesn’t Cancel Storms
Sometimes the storm is proof you obeyed—not proof you failed.
Read:
The disciples didn’t drift into trouble. Jesus sent them into the boat. That means the wind they faced wasn’t punishment—it was part of the path. And that’s the tension of real faith: you can follow God and still feel fought.
If you’ve been doing right and still seeing resistance, don’t let the storm rewrite the story. The storm doesn’t mean God changed His mind. The storm may be where God grows your endurance, clarity, and trust.
Reflect:
Where am I tempted to think “this storm means I missed God”?
What obedience step have I delayed because it got hard?
What would “do it anyway” look like in my storm season?
Respond:
“Jesus, help me obey even when the wind is against me. Strengthen my trust when following feels heavy.”
Time Today:
Do one thing you know God told you to do—even if it’s inconvenient. Write it down and thank Him for the grace to obey.
