Ask Seek Knock

March 17, 2018

Ask Seek Knock basically gives us what we need to accomplish whatever we desire in life. I guess that’s why Jesus says “Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you." This is the formula for maintaining faith. I remember as a kid reminding my Mother of getting these Jordache jeans everyday. My Dad had warned that we were not financially able to buy those expensive jeans but I kept on asking anyway. I asked until my Grandmother told my Mother, “Lets go to the mall, I’m buying those jeans."  I didn't know how the jeans would be received I just understood that if I kept asking and believing something would happen. God provides provision even when he is silent. That is exactly the time to continuously go to him in humility and keep asking.  With each ask you grow faith.

Asking is wonderful but in order to find God in the midst of the process we have to diligently seek him! Talent, skill, ability—whatever you want to call it—will not get you where you strive to go. Sure, it helps. But a wealth of psychological research over the past few decades show loud and clear that it’s the psychological vehicles that really get you there. You can have the best engine in the world, but if you can’t be bothered to drive it, you won’t get anywhere. Talent is the exterior but hope propels the car. You are not inadequate! Search the deep wells within you to uncover the hidden potential within you and allow faith to push the throttle to the floor! You have to SEEK GOD while he may be found. It will take risk and it may even mean you fail a time or two but you must seek him.

After you have engaged in driving the car forward it takes perseverance and bravery to knock on the door. The doors are scary because we don't know what is on the other side. I recently submitted bids to several different school districts for contracts. I got rejected for almost a calendar year. Failure seemed certain but I began seeking people with wisdom. Wisdom helps you stay encouraged in the face of uncertainty. Gripped by the reality of failure I didn't want to keep getting rejected but I put in more bids. This time I got the contract. Not because of my aptitude but because I knew God would show up on my behalf. I just had to keep knocking! One more bid was all I needed to secure a contract. Many people missed their dream opportunity because they were not willing to change their perspective and knock one more time.

Get a clear vision of what you want out of life and then begin the long pathway of reaching every goal set before you.  What would you do if you knew you couldn’t fail? Start in that place and remember "The journey of one thousand miles begins with one step!" -Lao Tzo
